Before the system, charging a battery meant paying heavily just to bring light home.
Gunawadi and Patarshet are tribal hamlets in forest land. Until recently, neither had access to power. Residents who needed a charged battery paid heavily for it, because the nearest grid connection was distant and the journey difficult. After evening, there was darkness and the risks that come with it.Mission URJA deployed an in-house power system in both hamlets. The system runs on clean energy, drawn from the sun and stored locally. It provides safety after dark and eliminates the fuel cost that used to drain household budgets.
Handover, not donation
The site visit preceded formal handover in both hamlets.
The Worley team led the handover ceremony in both villages. Residents gathered for interaction and a formal transfer of ownership. The system now belongs to the community that uses it.This is the shape Mission URJA takes: power that stays, because the people who need it are the people who own it. No monthly bill tied to a faraway utility. No dependence on a supplier who may or may not show up. The hamlet runs the system, maintains it, and decides how the energy is used.
What it buys
The cost is what was spent on batteries, kerosene, candles and the time lost travelling to charge a phone. The return is light when it is needed, without asking permission or paying again.Children can study after sunset. Adults can work, cook, move safely between homes. The system does not announce itself with noise or smoke. It simply delivers what the grid delivers everywhere else, minus the bureaucracy and the distance.
The hamlet runs the system, maintains it, and decides how the energy is used.
Gunawadi and Patarshet are not the first hamlets to receive this model, and they will not be the last. The handover ceremony marks a shift: from dependence to ownership, from darkness to reliability, from forgotten to powered.
